FAQs - Musculoskeletal Disorders - Display Screen Equipment

This is a useful FAQ Document by the UK Health and Safety Executive.

Sample Question:

How long and how often should breaks be for DSE work and what should I do during breaks?

Answer: This depends on the kind of work you are doing. There is no legal guidance but it is advisable to break up long spells of DSE work. Short frequent breaks are better than longer ones but less frequent ones such as 5–10 minute breaks every hour are better than 20 minutes every 2 hours. Ideally users should have some choice about when to take breaks. Most jobs provide opportunities to pause from DSE work to do other tasks, such as filing or copying. If there are no such natural changes of activity in your job, your employer should plan for you to have rest breaks. It is best if breaks or changes of activity allow the user to get up from their workstation and move around, or at least stretch and change posture.

Who needs to know about the Regulations?

Anyone having construction or building work carried out has legal duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 (CDM 2007), unless they are a domestic client.

A domestic client is someone who lives, or will live, in the premises where the work is carried out. The premises must not relate to any trade, business or other undertaking. Although a domestic client does not have duties under CDM 2007, those who work for them on construction projects will.

HSE Guidance on Inspecting Fall Arrest Equipment

This is a useful recent release / updated Industrial Guidance Document (INDG 367) by the UK Health and Safety Executive.

TIRA v2.00.07 Released

TIRA v2.00.07

Update effects trail ware version only;

Duplicate Records no longer restricted to the header page. The trail ware version will now duplicate an entire risk assessment.

Spell checking fields no longer restricted to just the first memo field. The trial ware version will now spell check all memo fields in a risk assessment.

v2.00.00 introduced a bug in the Print Location form where neither the Print or Print Preview buttons where connected to their respective reports.

v2.00.01 has fixed this issue.

Additional the formula used to calculate the date of issue message where insufficient acknowledgement time is offered has been amended.

DICS v2.00 Released

On Safe Lines is pleased to announce the release of DICS v2.00 our Document Issuing and Control System.

Enhancement include;

  1. Read Write or Read Only login for users
  2. Ability to be able to record Document Verification Checks (i.e available, correct issue, legiable etc) , with supporting reports and stats.
  3. Quick status report button showing key information to the document controller
  4. Auto screen resolution – forms can now automatically adjust in size to match the users monitor resolution
  5. Ability to record more details in regards to document owners including name, title and full address
  6. Ability to set your own document acknowledgement timescale between 7 and 31 days (presently fixed 21days)
  7. Several other minor amendments to enhance the application.

Improvement in the error message offered if the user attempts to use the same risk assessment number twice.

System now displays the duplicated risk assessment number within the error message and then returns the focus to the risk assessment unique ID field so users can make amends...

AIM 2.00 UPGRADE INFORMATION

TIRA version 2.00.03

Improvement to the Risk Assessment List forms has been made to capture Risk Assessment that may not have had all core data entered on initial creation of the record.

Example: You start to create a DSE risk assessment, you enter the unique reference number and perhaps the location but for some reason you close the record before entering the user's name (maybe to check you have the correct spelling for the individuals name). Previously, you would have needed all three of these core pieces of information before the record would appear in the search list box (although the filter form would have found the record). The list boxes will now show data provided at least one piece of core data has been entered.

This applies to all Risk Modules.

TIRA G-Lite has been discontinued...

Version TIRA G-Lite has been discontinued...

It has been decided that TIRA will have just two versions, standard and the soon to be released pro version.

All the new features included in the G-Lite version such as record duplication, spell checking, tier access, etc. have been introduced into the newly launched version 2 of TIRA (standard edition).

When in read-only mode if there is no data to be pulled from the table TIRA will not display any fields. This is normal behavour in read only mode.

TIRA Version 2 Released

TIRA Standard (Task Inventory and Risk Assessments) – Version 2.00 Released

Work on version 2 of TIRA (Standard edition) is complete.
Enhancements include;

1. Duplicate complete records (which will allow you to create template risk assessments for quickly replicating and amending to suit)
2. Read Only or Read Write access
3. Spell Checking on all memo fields (ability to add words to users own dictionary)
4. Automatic screen resolution adjustments (to match the display screen monitor being used)
5. Export reports to Pdf or Xps
6. New backend file linking routine to assist in moving or networking TIRA’s data files

Plus a few other minor changes to improve the overall programme functionality.

BEFORE UPDATING PLEASE READ THIS - Failure to follow these instructions could result in your data being lost.

Backup your data up first…

Those users that have not inputted any records simply uninstall previous version and install version 2.00

Those users that have data inputted into TIRA

Copy TIRA’s data file (not the GUI file) to a safe location (i.e. file TIRA_be.accdb). Uninstall the previous version and install version 2.00. Now delete the “newly installed” TIRA_be.accdb normally located in “C:\TIRA\Data” and replace it with the copy you saved earlier. PLEASE ENSURE YOU GET THIS THE RIGHT WAY ROUND.

Those users that have moved TIRA from its default installation directory will need to amend this instruction to suit their own arrangements, it in doubt ask your IT support.

TIRA v2.00 is trailware not freeware and some users my wish to remain with the old version.

Enhancements include;

1. Duplicate complete records (which will also allow you to create template risk assessment for quickly replicating and adjusting to suit)
2. Read Only or Read Write access
3. Spell Checking on all memo fields (ability to add words to users own dictionary)
4. Automatic screen resolution adjustments (to match the display screen monitor being used)
5. Export reports to Pdf or Xps
6. New backend file linking routine to assist in moving or networking TIRA’s data files

Plus a few other minor changes to improve the programme.
